PARCP stands for PARallel CoPy. PARCP allows you to connect two computers by parallel cable and
copy large files or even whole drives across the cable. The main advantage over serial
network is the SPEED of transfer - PARCP can copy files faster than 105 kB/s!
(that's more than 6 megabytes per minute)
Another important thing is that PARCP runs on both Atari ST and IBM PC and supports all main
multitasking operating systems including MultiTOS, MagiC, Linux-ix86, OS/2 and Windows95.
PARCP Main Features:
- PARCP comes as native 32-bit application for two hardware different platforms: Atari ST and compatible and IBM PC and compatible.
- PARCP for PC is DOS based though it uses all features of multitasking operating systems like is IBM's OS/2 or Microsoft's Windows95/98/WindowsME.
- PARCP for Atari is a TOS program though it runs fine under MagiC and MiNT (MultiTOS) and uses all their features.
- PARCP can connect machines running under different operating systems and so you can transfer data between filesystems like Linux's ext2fs and MagiC's VFAT or Windows' VFAT and MiNT's minix-fs. Long file names and file attributes are preserved! AFAIK this is unique feature of PARCP and there is no other program that could handle that.
- PARCP has got two user interfaces - command line driven and fullscreen one. Command line interace is easy to learn as it mimics FTP client commands. The fullscreen interface (see screenshots) is written to be compatible with Norton/Volkov/Midnight Commander and their clones.
- PARCP is extremely easy to install (just unpack it) and use.
- PARCP is very fast (see the Speed records) because it uses full 8-bit file transfer.
- PARCP supports up to three parallel ports of a PC and can use all kinds of ports including EPP and ECP ones.
- Scripting! PARCP is able to execute commands written in plain text file! This way you can easily automate your tasks such as doing backups or installations of some files.
